The Best Way to Clean Your Oven

With the holiday season approaching, soon you are bound to start using your oven more often to whip up dishes for your family and guests. With making dishes comes the burden of cleaning up and your oven is bound to face the consequences. That’s why we’ve decided to create a step-by-step guide on how to clean your oven!

What Materials Do You Need to Clean Your Oven?

  • A good cleaner: there are many options to pick from
  1. Store bought oven cleaner
  2. Create a DIY cleaner by mixing baking soda, water, and vinegar. You will be creating a paste with these ingredients that will need to sit for 10-12 hours. After you have let your mixture sit for the required time put it in a spray bottle.
  3. Another DIY option is two lemons and a cup of water. This is a good option only if your oven is mildly dirty.
  4. Rubber cleaning gloves
  5. Cloth rags
  6. Microfiber sponge
  7. A large plastic trash bag

Once you’ve gotten all your materials together, it’s time to start the cleaning process!

  1. First, remove everything from your oven (including the racks).
  2. Put your gloves on and spray your oven cleaner around the inside of your oven, covering the back, sides, bottom, top, door, corners, and crevices. For electric stoves and ovens don’t spray on the heating elements instead lift them up and spray underneath. If you have a gas oven don’t spray where the gas comes through. Make sure to close the oven when you are done.
  3. Let the spray sit for 30 minutes
  4. While the spray is sitting take your oven racks outside and spray them with cleaner and place them in a large plastic garbage bag.
  5. Once the time has passed take a damp cloth rag and open the oven and wipe down all surfaces. If there are spots that require more abrasive cleaning, we recommend using a microfiber sponge for those tuff to get places.
  6. Remove all racks from the bag and rinse them in your sink with hot soapy water. Then use a sponge to remove any access residue. Wait for them to dry and then place them back in the oven!
