How to Clean Your Oven Naturally

Thanksgiving is around the corner! As you gear up for the holiday, ensure that your oven is prepared too! Cleaning your oven is very important to avoid any mishaps. However, when cleaning your oven, you’ll want to stay away from using any harsh chemicals! So how do you do that? By using natural ingredients!

Ready to roll up your sleeves? Here is a step-by-step guide to give your oven a deep clean naturally.

Make a Baking Soda Paste

Baking soda is non-toxic, inexpensive, and easy-to-use on cleaning oven grease. It is also a mild abrasive so it works well at removing dried and stuck-on foods. It neutralizes acids and breaks down grease, allowing you to wipe it up easily.

To start, mix ¾ cup of baking soda and ¼ cup of warm water in a bowl. Larger ovens may require more paste.

Remove and Soak the Oven Racks

Always take your racks out even if you are using your oven’s self-cleaning function; the heat during the cycle can warp racks. Once they are removed, let them sit in a dishwashing liquid for a few hours, then scrub with a scouring pad followed by rinsing and drying.

Apply the Paste

Be sure to fill any openings inside the oven with foil before applying the paste. Using a paintbrush, spread the paste throughout the oven’s interior, avoiding bare metal surfaces and the oven door. To get into any tight corners and spaces, you can use an old toothbrush. Once completed, leave the paste on overnight.

Clean it Out

Remove the hardened paste with a plastic scraper, wetting it as needed, then wipe with a damp cloth. Repeat these steps until the oven is rid of the paste.

Wipe the Oven Door

Combine equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray along the door and wipe it down with a soft cloth, avoiding wetting the gasket.

Once all steps are finished, your oven will not only be clean, but free from harsh chemical fumes!
