What should I do if my washing machine doesn’t work at all?

  1. Is there power to the washing machine?
Make sure it’s plugged in! Check the power in the outlet by plugging something else in, or by testing with a voltmeter
  • Lid switch
A defective lid switch can cause your washing machine to fail. This is an easy repair. It’s usually located near the door and the part is readily available on line for most models.

Why is my washing machine filling and draining at the same time?

  1. Check the drain hose
Your drain hose could be too low. The drain hose should be three feet above the floor or more.
  2. The drain line or water pump could be clogged
Make sure there’s nothing stuck in the drain hose or the pump.
  3. Water Pump problem
Your problem could be an issue with the water pump. Water pumps for most makes and models are readily available.

Why isn’t my washing machine draining?

  1. Check the lid switch assembly
Usually, this problem is caused by a bad lid switch assembly. Lid switches for most makes and models are readily available.
  2. Drain hose or drain pump
If the lid switch is working, check for a clogged pump or hose. small objects can clog the drain system, the pump or hose that leads to the pump.
  3. Loose or broken water pump belt
If there is no blockage in the drain hose or the pump or hose, check the water pump belt. Replacing a broken or worn belt can solve this problem.
  4. Washing machine drive belt
A loose or broken main drive belt can prevent the washer from draining. Replace the belt, if this is the issue.
  5. Coin trap
Your washer may have a “coin trap” for catching small objects that fall out of pockets. Find the access panel and remove objects that are blocking the trap.
