How to Calibrate Your Oven To Ensure Maximum Performance

With the holidays just around the corner, it is important to start preparing your appliances for the work they endure during the season. It is time to calibrate your oven, clean your fridge, and make sure your appliances are up to speed. Making sure that all of your appliances are properly maintained will help them work efficiently and increase their lifespan.

Especially around Thanksgiving, you use your oven a lot, so you want to make sure that it is performing the best it possibly can. One part of doing this would be checking your oven temperature is calibrated, here is how:

Step One: Test the Oven’s Temperature

Set your oven to 350 °F. Once it is preheated, place an oven thermometer on the middle rack of your oven and let it sit. Repeat this step a few times and take the average temperature to ensure that you are getting an accurate result.

Step Two: Determine how far off your Oven Temperature is

If your Temperature is 35 °F +/- off, you can recalibrate it yourself. However, if your temperature is off more than 35°F, you will need a repair technician to come and check your ovens sensor and thermostat. Either way, a repair technician can easily recalibrate your oven for you.

Calibrating a Manual Thermostat

To calibrate a manual thermostat, pull the knob off of the thermostat, there you will see a small screw in the middle. To calibrate, just turn the screw slightly. If you turn the screw clockwise you will decrease the temperature readings and counterclockwise will increase the readings. Continue to test your oven calibration with the oven temperature to ensure that it is calibrated correctly.

Calibrating a Digital Thermostat

Calibrating the newer, electric model ovens are much simpler to do. Most of these types can be adjusted using a keypad. Use your oven’s owner manual as a reference.
